MTSS
MTSS - Multi-Tiered System of Supports
What Is MTSS?
MTSS stands for Multi-Tiered System of Supports.
It’s a schoolwide framework that helps make sure every student receives the right kind of support to reach their full potential — academically, socially, and emotionally.
How It Works:
MTSS provides different levels (or “tiers”) of support based on each student’s needs:
- Tier 1 – Support for All Students
Every student receives high-quality instruction and positive behavior supports in the classroom. Teachers use proven strategies to help students succeed.
- Tier 2 – Extra Support for Some Students
If a student needs additional help, they may receive small-group support focused on specific skills like reading, math, or behavior.
Tier 3 – Intensive Support for a Few Students
A small number of students may need individualized instruction or specialized interventions designed just for them.
Why MTSS Matters:
- Helps teachers identify and address needs early
- Ensures no student “falls through the cracks”
- Promotes both academic growth and emotional well-being
- Encourages teamwork among teachers, families, and specialists
How Families and the Community Can Help:
- Stay Involved: Ask how your child is doing and what supports are in place.
- Communicate: Share information about your child’s strengths and needs.
- Collaborate: Participate in meetings and celebrate progress together.
