Learning Leading Succeeding

Kyah Germain, former 8th grader at Warsaw Elementary

Duplin County Schools offer endless opportunities that will help prepare me for my future. I am a member of several clubs, including BETA, Teacher Ambassador, and the Peer-to-Peer Group. These clubs are beneficial because interacting with others enhances my problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. I enjoy studying Math and spending time with my friends at Warsaw Elementary. What makes Warsaw Elementary special to me is the sense of safety I feel here, something I didn’t experience at other schools. I am also grateful for the many extracurricular activities offered, which make my school experience enjoyable.

The staff at Warsaw Elementary share a common goal, which is to ensure success for all students. This school is amazing in that we all work as a team to make sure that every student has the opportunity to be successful and grow year after year. When staff members arrive to work daily with a positive attitude and spread that attitude onto fellow staff members and students, the whole atmosphere transforms into a learning environment that is inspiring and motivational. As a teacher, I believe that building relationships is crucial to a student's success. I also believe that students do well in an environment in which they feel safe and are allowed to express their thoughts and ideas.

One of my future goals is to be a writer. My teacher, Mrs. Gladys Sutton, helps me increase my writing skills by allowing me to practice adding details to my writing, practicing fluency, and learning bigger words. What  mostly enjoy about school is
reading, because I like how stories use details. Even if a chapter book does not have pictures, you can still use the details to make a movie of the story in your head. My
school is special because everyone brings their best potential. Our teachers tell us to persevere and to never give up.

NC Museum of Art: Artist Innovation Mentorship Program at Warsaw Elementary School

The North Carolina Museum of Art-Artist Innovation Mentorship (AIM) program provides six-week sessions, led by Mr. Telvin Wallace and Mr. Glenwood Bell. This innovative program, which meets weekly after school, empowers middle school students at WARE by nurturing creativity, fostering mentorship, and building valuable relationships within the community. Through AIM, students gain artistic skills, confidence, and a sense of belonging, breaking down barriers to artistic expression and opening doors to future opportunities. As a former WARE student, Mr. Telvin Wallace's early triumph in an elementary drawing contest sparked his artistic journey. Now, an acclaimed artist splitting time between Durham and New York City, he mentors rural students in the AIM after-school program.
